Natural State Fisheries Scholarship

The Arkansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (ARAFS) is seeking deserving students enrolled in fisheries-related curricula at an accredited Arkansas University as applicants for the Natural State Fisheries Scholarship. 

A $250 scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate student and a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one graduate student. To be eligible, applicants must be paid members of ARAFS and enrolled at an accredited university at the time of scholarship award (January 2024). A nomination is not required and more than one student from the same university may apply. Recipients will be notified by December 20, 2023 and scholarships will be dispersed in January 2024. Scholarship recipients will be acknowledged during the 2024 Arkansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting to be held February 21-23, 2024. Although not mandatory, scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting.

A recipient of each scholarship will be selected by a committee based upon their responses to applicable questions. These questions provide the opportunity for students to describe their academic excellence, professional activities, and promise of future professional involvement. 

Application packets must be received by Monday, November 20, 2023, 11:59PM CST. No exceptions. The PDF application form may be obtained from the ARAFS website https://arkansasafs.wildapricot.org/Scholarship. Application and unofficial transcript should be submitted by email to Allison.Asher@agfc.ar.gov. An email acknowledging receipt of application will be sent to each applicant by November 22, 2023.
